The title of this talk is the same as the Random House book, Feather in A Storm, and tells the story of a child who is torn away from her family and spans the 17 years she experienced growing up during the chaos of the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution in China. Her story opens when she is three and ends when she is seventeen. From the story we come to “understand the Cultural Revolution through Yimao’s eyes, (as she is called in China) in poignant and sometimes humorous stories” ; rather than lifeless, straight facts. This powerful story of a child caught up in a tumultuous period of China’s history, where forces beyond her control tossed
her about like a feather. You will be moved and fascinated by this story and wonder how she survived and in the end, was united
with her family; which ultimately got to America and San Jose? Nov. 2008 |
