Using Office Training Materials by Vervial Group

This HTML-based product is best viewed with Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4 or NetscapeŽ Communicator 4 or better.

For maximum ease of viewing and use: your monitor should be set to a screen resolution of at least 800X600. To ensure that your system meets this minimum requirement, perform the following steps.

  1. Click on the Start button in the bottom, left corner of your screen.
  2. Select Settings, Control Panel, and then double-click on the Display icon.
  3. The Display Properties dialog box will open.
  4. Click on the Settings tab - another dialog box will open.
  5. Check to see if the setting under the heading Desktop Area is 800x600 or greater.
  6. If the setting is correct, close the Display Properties dialog box.
  7. If the setting is not correct, click on the sliding control under the heading Desktop Area, choose the desired resolution and click on OK.

At 800x600, all text and graphics will fit in the display area of your screen when the window is maximized. However, there may be times when you will want to resize the window so that instructions can be viewed alongside another window containing the Office application you are learning.

Using this training product: this training product is best used running both the required application (Word, Excel, etc.) and the browser simultaneously. Tile the programs on the screen, or maximize them both and use Alt + TAB to switch between the two.

Data Files: The files used for Walk-Throughs and Exercises may be opened from this web site, but you will not be able to save them unless you save them to your own hard drive. Please read Note for Internet Explorer Users below. Each of the modules' Table of Content has a self-extracting file for easy download to your hard drive.

Note for Internet Explorer Users

When using Microsoft® Internet Explorer, the Walk-Throughs and Exercises in Excel, PowerPoint and Word that have an active link to a data file will open the file in the browser (Excel, PowerPoint and Word act as plug-ins). To rectify this, do not click on the link. Instead, right click on the link and chose Save Target As to save the file on your hard drive. Better yet, download the self-extracting file from the Table of Content and install to your hard drive all at once. Then, open the software (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint or Word) and open the file from your hard drive.
