2007-08 Rotary Foundation Results
Dear Rotarians and Clubs of District 5170:
For the second year in a row the Rotarians in District 5170 have contributed more than $700,000 to the Annual Program Funds (APF) of the Rotary Foundation. If that was not sufficiently remarkable, then we should be equally proud that only for the second time in District history, our clubs and Rotarians gave over $1,100,000 in total giving.
All our clubs, and the majority of our Rotarians, were a part of our financial success.
- EVERY club in our District contributed to the Rotary Foundation in 2007/08. Every club played a role in creating world understanding and peace through their generosity to the Rotary Foundation.
- 60% of our all Rotarians in our District contributed at least $100!
- Almost 50% of all Rotarians contributed at least $200!
- Almost 40% of all clubs gave at least $200 a member!
The above statistics make it remarkably clear that the Rotary Foundation is at the heart of our clubs and District express Rotary.
For your reference, we have provided the following year end reports:
2007-08 D5170 Performance (XLS) – This report shows last year’s performance in a historical context. Important to note, in addition to the APF and total giving is that our Paul Harris Society membership increased by almost 25% - thank you Gary Reece. Jim LeBlanc is the 2008-09 Paul Harris Society Chair, and it would be wonderful if we could exceed 200 PHS members this year.
Every Rotarian Every Year Activity Report Zones 23 & 24 (PDF) – This report shows how we performed relative to other West Coast Districts. There are a couple of notable observations here – D5280 raised more than $1.5MM toward APF primarily because one person gave $1.0MM. I am trying to find that person and offer them membership in one of OUR clubs. A more serious threat to our leadership position is District 5020, who raised just under $750,000. Although we tend to be a world wide leader in giving to the Rotary Foundation, we must settle for third place on the West Coast this year. I do not consider this bad. We should be very proud what we achieved. However, I would like to kick some serious West Coast derrière in 2008-09.
District 5170 Monthly Contribution Report (PDF) – Full Year: This report shows us the performance, by club, in our achievement of the above accomplishments. The notable clubs – although there are many, and many new ones are emerging – last year’s performance was largely on the back of three outstanding clubs Cupertino, Livermore and Saratoga. But there were many other notable achievements, not the least of which was Los Altos Sunset coming remarkably close to $1,000 per member in giving in a single year. I guess that they were saving themselves for this year!
Please feel free to share this information in your clubs. We should make sure all 4,000+ Rotarians in our District know that our District expresses itself through the Rotary Foundation. We make a difference in the world, in our clubs and in the lives of our Rotarians.
Job well done! Now that last year is done, we have work to do this year to surpass prior performance and all of those other “pesky” Districts!
Thank you for being a part of this effort.
