Rotary International District 5170

Beginning in July 2006, Rotary International has  established a Rotary Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. This will be a special three-month course aimed at middle and upper-level managers in governments, non-governmental organizations, and private corporations. Sessions will be conducted in English and held twice each year. Each Fellow’s employer will be expected to cover the $5000 cost of the three-month session, including tuition, room-and-board, and educational materials. The Rotary Foundation will cover the expenses of roundtrip travel between the Fellow’s home and Bangkok. Applications are available in the RI Website’s Download Center. Dear Friends of the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program,

Call for Applications
The Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies (RPCS) Program announces a call for applications for the July 2007 program session. The deadline for district-endorsed applications to be submitted to The Rotary Foundation for this session is 1 December 2006.

Graduation Announcement
The 15 member inaugural class of RPCS participants graduated on 29 September 2006.  They have all returned home and have hit the ground running.  Many are already applying lessons learned during the program in their careers while becoming involved in Rotary events and promotional activities outside of their employment.  Please contact Jenn Weidman (contact information below) to schedule RPCS alumni to speak at your next Rotary event!

Selection Announcement
The second class has been selected and will begin studies in January 2007.  Our congratulations go out to the following districts for sponsoring successful candidates: 1660, 3060, 3130, 3220, 3260, 3290, 3340, 3350, 3790, 5630, 6890, 9120, 9150, and 9210.  The 22 members of the second RPCS class represent 13 countries with an average age of 38 and 11 years average work experience with 86% hailing from low-income regions.
