You will hear the Council on Legislation results and the impact on your Club. A proven New Membership Plan, tips to take your club to the next level, and new District resources to assist you and your Club will all be part of this dynamic session!
Service Projects – “Leading Through Action”
Facilitator: John W. Baird, Ph.D., San Jose
This program is a MUST for service project leaders. This session will help leaders with concrete strategies for increasing member buy-in and commitment to their service projects. Using an Action Planning Sheet, participants will walk away with a concrete plan on how to execute their projects. The format is highly interactive with opportunity to learn about the “best practices” of other clubs.
Club Administration
Facilitator: Don MacKenzie, Palo Alto University
Do you know your role in the Club Administration Committee? Rotary has redefined Club Service, now called Club Administration. What will be your responsibilities in this most vital position? This session will explore what it takes to cultivate and express your Club’s distinctiveness, and the important roles and responsibilities of Club Treasurers and Secretaries. Take part in an open exchange of ideas to help shape how you will lead your club next year in your primary responsibility of increasing Club effectiveness.
Membership – “Rotary’s Life Blood“
Facilitator: Rod Diridon, Sr., San Jose
Involvement in service clubs has dropped precipitously worldwide in the last several decades while Rotary has bucked that tide. Yet last year Rotary membership in the US dropped by 32,000 members! We must work smarter and harder if Rotary expects to retain our membership base…the talent and treasure…to service our communities and the world. Attend the Membership Planning Session at the District 5170 Assembly and be part of the solution!”
The Rotary Foundation
Facilitator: Brad Howard, Oakland Sunrise
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is the heart of Rotary's efforts toward World Understanding and Peace and the eradication of polio. It is
also the heart of the most successful Rotary clubs. Participants in this session will learn about the programs of the Rotary Foundation, and the District’s efforts in 2007-2008 to help individual Rotary clubs work to raise funds for, and participate in, the programs of the Foundation.
Public Relations
Facilitator: Dennis Wilcox, San Jose
Key to successful club public relations and communications is strategic thinking and formulation of a strategic plan. Learn how to develop an effective plan for external and internal communications. Explore how public awareness and high visibility lead to strong partnerships with major community groups, member recruitment and retention, and Rotary’s growth in service capability via public understanding of our work to improve the quality of life for everyone in our community. You don’t want to miss this session!
Youth Service
Facilitator: Roger Hassler, Almaden Valley
Rotarians will be inspired to become more involved with the youth of our community when they hear first hand from the young people Rotary serves. The investment of our time, talents, and treasure provides opportunities for them to grow into productive adults. Youth leaders from Rotaract, Interact, RYLA, the Speech Contest and Youth Exchange will facilitate discussions in each of their areas. Please join our outstanding youth leaders for this always-popular session.
President Elect Nominees 2008-2009
Facilitator: District Governor Nominee Gary Citti, Santa Clara
This will be your first opportunity to meet with your 2008-09 District Governor and the other Club President-Nominees as a group. Our focus will be on preparing you for your year as Rotary Club President.
