What Rotary experience should you have?
 
How Selected?
  By a Nominating Committee, subject to challenge by any nominating club. Approved by the electors at a District Conference and ratified by the delegates at a Rotary International Convention.
   
Minimum Qualifications for Consideration:
 
  • Rotarian for 7 years in one or more clubs
  • Current Rotarian in good standing in a club in good standing
  • Service as a Club President for one full year
  • Nominated by a Rotary club or by the District Nominating Committee
Other Critical Areas for Consideration:
 
  • Knowledge of the clubs and Rotarians in the District and widely known by District Rotarians
    • Why? Directly or indirectly a Governor makes more than 100 appointments
  • Knowledge of the functions, programs, and committees in the District
    • Why? Before you can promote or change something, you need to understand it
  • Knowledge of District Finances
    • Why? More than any other person, decisions of the Governor determine District solvency
  • Knowledge of Rotary International
    • Why? The Governor is usually the only officer of Rotary International in the District
  • Knowledge of The Rotary Foundation
    • Why? The Governor is expected to be the chief promoter of The Rotary Foundation
Best Training/Experience for District Governor:
 
  • Service as an Assistant Governor
  • Service as a District Avenue of Service Director
  • Service on District Finance Committee
  • Service as District Membership Development Chair
  • Service as Major Event Chair
    • District Conference
    • District Assembly
    • Avenues of Service
   
Logical Career Path:
  Club President, District Committee Member, District Committee Chair, District Special Events Chair, Avenue of Service Director, Assistant Governor
   
How Do I Get The Job?
  Secure the credentials and ask your club to nominate you by the deadline (normally set by the Nominating Committee Chair for June 30, 2 years before the term begins).
