Dear Club Presidents,

Please participate in the HEALTH AND HUNGER AWARD system endorsed by RI President Dong Kurn Lee and Past RI Presidents Wilfrid Wilkinson and Bill Boyd. This Award system was created by Dr. Heather Yarker, RI 2008-09 Health and Hunger Resource Group General Coordinator, with the objective to encourage clubs to pursue projects that address health and hunger issues around the world:

"Rotary International's Health and Hunger Resource Group will recognize your efforts and participation in a Health and Hunger project with an Award Certificate if you advise your Health & Hunger District Coordinator. This certificate may be presented to an individual Rotarian, Club, District or a Friend of Rotary”.

So therefore to qualify for HEALTH AND HUNGER AWARDS, your club must participate in Health and Hunger Project(s), internationally and/or locally. To apply for the Award Certificate(s), your club needs to e-mail me a short description of the project(s) with goals and accomplishments. This will also facilitate sharing information in the District regarding club activities in the areas of Health and Hunger (and Water which is closely related). I will collect these reports and summarize for District Governor Gary Citty for review. Award applications will also be sent to the Health and Hunger Zone 24 Coordinator David L. Gallagher to share information. Award Certificates can be presented any time during the year.

In the 2007-2008 Rotary year 16 clubs in our District received Health and Hunger Awards compared to 6 the previous year: Freedom, Fremont, Livermore, Los Altos, Mountain View, Oakland, Palo Alto, Palo Alto University, Piedmont/Montclair, San Leandro, Santa Cruz, Saratoga, Scotts Valley, Sunnyvale, Watsonville, and San Jose. Let’s show that our District will “Make Dreams Real” and we can even do much better this year. Good luck with going for the Awards!
