RotaCare® Bay Area, Inc.
Overview of the Organization

Founded in 1989 by a Rotary Club member in Santa
Clara, the RotaCare clinics are licensed as free
clinics that provide primary health care at no cost
to families at nine locations in the Bay Area. The
goal of these clinics is to bring free medical care
for the relief of pain and suffering to those who
have the most need and the least access to medical
care. The program is operated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit
public benefit corporation and is financially supported
by Rotary Clubs, grants and individual donations.
Staffed by volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners,
nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, receptionists
and other volunteers, the clinics provide over 10,000
patient visits annually. Each clinic has its own
Administrative Council that oversees the day-to-day
operations of the clinic.
At
all nine locations, urgent medical care is provided
and includes treatment of minor illnesses and injuries.
The scope of service varies by sites and can also
include physical exams, immunizations, follow-up
of chronic health conditions, women's health care
and physical therapy.
Three-hour clinic sessions are held generally
once or twice weekly in the evening.
