Methamphetamine Awareness Project
Join forces with the Rotary Club of Santa Cruz, the United Way, and other local agencies including treatment providers to lead a community awareness and education project focused on the growing methamphetamine abuse problem.
Desired Outcomes:
- Prevention of Methamphetamine abuse through education of parents, teens, and the community at large.
- Alignment of community resources resulting in changes in laws, public policies, budgeting practices, attitudes.
- Providing Families affected with ready access to an available support networks.
- Providing users with ready access to available treatment options.
Key Messages:
- 1.Methamphetamine is an extremely dangerous and highly addictive drug that can result in addiction after one usage. (Methamphetamine is 4-5 times more addictive than cocaine)
- Methamphetamine abuse has reached epidemic proportions, impacting the entire public support system including law enforcement, hospitals and social services.
- Help for Methamphetamine users, families of users is available right here within the community.
Specific Project Objectives:
Objective 1: Distribute readily available sources of information for those wanting help- Online: santacruzmethamphetamine.org, a web site to promote Methamphetamine Awareness and availability of resource to help those affected
- Brochures available from the Rotary Club of Santa Cruz
Objective 3: Team with law enforcement and other community agencies to host community forums.
Objective 4: Organize and deploy Public Service Announcements
- Methamphetamine Education Ads on cable
- Sponsor ads in the local press.
