2006-07 Newsletter Contest

District 5170 is having a club newsletter contest this year. The contest offers Rotary clubs in our District the opportunity to share their best work with other clubs. Recognition will be awarded to club newsletters according to the following criteria for the 2006-2007 District 5170 Club Newsletter Contest.

  1. Two issues in the Rotary 2006-2007 year of your clubs newsletter will be submitted for judging prior to the District Conference in April 2007.
  2. Judging will be done by non-Rotarian marketing and journalism professionals.
  3. Entries will be divided into club size categories:
    1. Small clubs -- 29 or fewer members.
    2. Medium size clubs 30-60 members.
    3. Large clubs 61-139 members
    4. Supersized clubs -- Over 140 members.
  4. The overall goals of club newsletters should be:
    1. Informative value of the newsletter to club members and to prospective members.
    2. Inspirational value of the newsletter does it inspire club members to participate in club activities and provide service to Rotary?
    3. Readability.
  5. Specific criteria for judging to meet the overall goals will include:
    1. Does the newsletter achieve reader interest with a variety of news? (10 points)
    2. Does it build club camaraderie and encourage participation in club activities by spouses and other family members. (10 points)
    3. Does it cover club activities and news, past, current, and future; upcoming programs; show participation of club members. (10 points)
    4. Does it communicate a sense of club direction with columns by the club president and information from the Board of Directors? (10 points)
    5. Does it include information about the District and Rotary International of interest to club members? (10 points)
    6. Is it an effective tool for membership recruitment? (10 points)
    7. Is it visually attractive and readable? (10 points)
    8. Is it published on at least a monthly basis? (5 points)
    9. Is it published and distributed to all members in a timely and appropriate fashion, either electronically or hard copy or both? (5 points)
  6. Deadline for submission is March 1, 2007.
